not thinkin this is good...
well this sucks and hopefully im wrong but i popped the oil cap off the engine just for ***** and giggles and noticed a creamy white on the underlay of the cap... i hope im wrong but i dont think thats good, ive only had the car for a month and a half maybe two... what would this be? i mean obviously water from somewhere but is it just moisture from the weather or wouldnt that be the case? its an 03 with 42 thousand on it....... PLEASE HELP!!! I WILL TRY TO POST SOME PICS
Could just be sludge as well. I wouldn't get to excited about it. If it's really bothering you, search for how to seafoam your car and give that a whirl. if you're REALLY concerned, do a compression and leakdown test on your car. It'll tell you if it's a head gasket (which I'm guessig you're thinking it is).

hmm... well i plan on changin the oil and filter over the weekend, my first time with this car, any pointers, and which synthetic oil should i use?... i live in upstate new york.... and what would clean my engine? i did a small search on sludge and it said not to flush the engine cause it break down stuff that wont make it through to the drain and kind ahangs out in the pan and screen... lookin for best ideas thanks guy this is all learnin for me thats why i ask so many questions[8D]
I have a couple bottles of sea-foam at home, and I'll probably do the sea-foam treatment in the next couple of weeks, when I have time. It's okay to do the sea-foam treatment once or twice, but if you do it too many times, it will dry out the seals... not a good thing.
Your factory warranty is 4 yrs/50k miles from original date of sale, and if your car is CPO, your extended warranty is 6 yrs/100k total miles. Looks like you're probably out of factory warranty, but CPO warranty may still apply in your case. If you're concerned about the gunk on the oilcap, you can take it down to the stealership and pay the $50 (if you're CPO), and they can have a look at it, and diagnose & fix the problem.
If you do change your own oil, keep all receipts as proof of your oil changes. Anything on the list below is VAG-approved:

Your receipts will help document all your oil changes if your engine quits on you because of oil sludge.
