Default obtaining radio code

I am about to purchase a used radio for my car. If it does not come with the code, how can i go about getting the code from the dealership? Do they charge for the code? Any experience/info would be appriciated.

Is it a used OEM headunit? If so you usually you need the code off of the back of the headunit and the VIN number of the car, but if it's used I don't really know.

Have the seller get you the code before you buy it.
