Offset- bigger lip
Just wondering, what offset do you guys have on after market wheels? i have black 18s with a polished lip but im planning on getting different wheels, same style but with a bit wider lip. should i go with a bigger or lower offset for a wider lip?
This should help - http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
as long as your new rims are the same width as your old ones the offest is the same - offset does not change with the size of the lip, thats just the design of the wheel.

but if you change the offset, wouldnt that change the gap between the inside of rim to strut, which would change the oustide lip as well like bring it away or closer to the car which would have an affect on the lip?
A 32mm offset like ours is defined as 32mm from the center of the wheel to the inside face that mounts to the hub - wither is be 7 inches wide or 9 inches wide - a 32mm on a 7 inch rim is equal to a 20mm offset in a 9inch wheel. If I have a design of a rim that has a 2 inch lip it will have a 2 inch lip in every single size of offset that size is available in.

As you can see in the picture these are three representations of drastically different offsets. Yet the outside "lip" is not changed.
I also would think that a wider rim might allow for what you are looking for. Or choose a different wheel with a design more to your liking.
