Well i was thinking about doing that only while it's under the warranty, but the warranty is about to run off so after that i'll keep synthetic in it but i will change it every 3-4 thousand miles, and i will start doing that as soon as i do my last service call while i have warranty on it

This is a very hard question to anwser in my opinion. I personally use a quality synthetic (mobil1) and have loved it. Based on what others have told me is that it takes about 4k miles just for the oil to break in. Well in my opinion you can not anwser a complex question that simply. It depends on how you drive. If you only do city driving, lots of hard and quick starts, and tend to push your car harder. I would say changing you oil every 3 to 4k miles is a good idea. If you on the other hand are a softer driver or more importantly drive a lot of highway miles, I would say 5 or 6 or maybe even 7k miles would be fine untill your next oil change. One thing to keep in mind is oil is cheap compared to the parts it protects, it is good to look at your oil, see the shape and quality of it as you drain it. That will help you plan on how offten you need to be changing your oil. If you did it every 3 or 4k miles regardless of your driving you wont be hurting your engine in any manner and you could look at it as a cheap insurance policy. just my .02

ok i appreciate that, i mean it's hard to say how i drive my car because sometimes i do quick starts sometimes i take it easy, you never know with a 5 speed, thats what i love about them. but i'm using Valvoline Synthetic now, do you prefer any other oil to use??

I use Mobil1 Sythentic. I travel about 3000 -3200 miles a month so I change my oil every 6K miles and I have got 143K and my car is running sweet. It is all highway miles.

Given that the 1.8T has a small sump, and a propensity for sludging, I'd go for the 5K change myself.
