you run synthetic oil for 10,000 miles before you change the oil???

i personally think that is a retarded idea, but brilliant if you want sludge up your engine!

I change the oil every 10K mi. at WalMart. They charge $38 for synthetic, Mobil 1 0W-40, With my large filter. They give me one quart to go as my car takes 4 quarts. I have 124K mi. with no sludge.
They also give a road hazard warranty with their tires.

Why you guys are on the subject of oil changes, mine is coming up in a bout 1k miles and i know the guy that owned the car before me didnt switch to synthetic or the new filter(audi recomendation). So what Synth. Oils you guys prefer/reccomend and whats the correct oil filter for the new one supposed to be used, larger one if i read right in another thread. Dumb question but this is coming from a mustang driver, and ic old care less what went into that thing, i never changed oil, i just added lol and walmart has the cheapest oil for that lol. Thanks for the info you may give.

It was the lack of oil (small filter) that caused most of the sludge probs in the longitude engines and also people using dino oil.

If your just not wanting to get under the car, they sell those electric pumps that will suck the oil out of the dipstick slot for you, takes like 5 minutes.

DIYers can use Mobil1 and not the shitty Group 3 simpletech syntetic Walmart puts in your car. You want a good group 4 base oil like Amsoil/Mobil1/Penzoil Plat. the walmart brand is essentially mineral oil with a ton of additives, that are not consistant from batch to batch like the bigger brands.

Also you gotta make sure they use an oil filter with an anti drainback valve and a bypass valve or your engine could starve for oil when you floor it or if the filter clogs. The shitty filters they use at quicke oil change places have neither.

Simplest explaination I have seen is here http://www.mustangforums.com/m_664012/tm.htm

Oh one more thing, according to multiple tests by individuals sending oil samples to Blackstone Labs, (you can find tests online all over the place), Group 4 Synthetic with 15K on the clock consistantly tests better then most mineral oils with 3K on the clock.

I have personally run my Ford Probe 4cyl for 27K on the same syntectic (standard 10W30 Mobil1) just changing the filter and the quart that comes out with it every 10K and the car runs fantasticly.

The probe motor was removed and disasembed @155K miles due to a spark plug breaking out of the cyl head, and I found very, very little sludge, the motor looked extreamly clean for 155K. I fixed the spark plug issue with a helicoil and the car now has 180 K and still runs within 10psi of perfect factory compression on all cyl.

Although I wouldnt try it with a turbo car. Ever.

Walmart is using the Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance Synthetic. As for the filter, I use the Bosch.

DUDE, you WENT TO WALMART! What do you really expect? The guys get minimum wage, & probably have 0 experience.

While it sucks that are that bad, I would double check the oil level & filter, I bet you have a Fram filter on there. Fram filters suck!

Find a independent Audi shop for oil changes. If you are paying for the oil change, you can get anything you want in the car.

Walmart uses Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec and some other approved synthetic oils.

There is a whole write-up somewhere on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ why you shouldn’t use fram/bosch/simpletech because they lack protective internal components (like the anti-drainback valve) They also said Bosch used to be a fantastic filter, but they stopped making it in house and outsource the filters now, and they are some cheap off brand, with a Bosch label.
