Default Oil light comes on and now I need a new engine???

Hi! My engine oil light came on in my 2003 A4 Avant last wednesday and I drove it for a few days and left it over the long weekend. Yesterday I go to start the car and it made clicking noises and then the engine light came on so I stopped driving right away and had it towed to the Audi dealership. Now they're telling me I MIGHT need a new engine.

I drove it for about 180km after the light came on and didn't drive it for 3 days...what I'm wondering is if someone can tell me if this is common. I'd be really upset if I do need an engine because a new engine is probably worth more than my car!

Thanks for your thoughts in advance,
Josephine

i hate to tell you this but if you really drove it 180km after the oil pressure light came on then its likley you will need a new engine.

if i were you id get that checked out right away. see what the oil pressure is, normally (besides the light) you wont get any warning until the engine locks up or throws a rod. that how it was with my saab, ran like a champ until the day i spun over one of the rod bearings becuase of low oil pressure.

Yes your engine may be damaged beyond repair, but if you read the link i gave you the newengine may be FREE regardless of mileage due to a world wide TSB of the oil pick up tube clogging from sludge.
The dealer will either cover the sludge repair or engine replacement, you just have to show proof of all oil change receipts.
