i hate how vw won't approve amsoil, none of the vw/audi shops will sell or put it in the car. i could only find one place in town that would do it

Be sure you use synthetic, as you have a 1.8t. Regular dino oil will cook your turbo, and you'll eventually have a $5k paperweight (aka engine) on your hands due to the development of sludge. Amsoil isn't on the list, but lots of people on here use it. Personally, I use Mobil 1 0w40 with OEM filter that I get from the local VW dealer.

Mobil 1 - 0-40w or 5-40w depending on the weather/temp condition. Can't go wrong with Mobil : ). It's about 6$...but cheaper at Walmart. They had a special not too long ago and I got the price of $4 per quart. That was a steal, for Mobil at least. I would also recommend a Bosch Oil Filter. You can google it online....not sure which auto parts store sells them.

Here is something interesting to look into (some of you might already know of this) - adding a magnet to the oil filter to help with filtration. Here is a site with some interesting info. What do you guys think or take from this?

Does Ammsoil or Royal Purple meet ACEA A3 standard?

I use to run amsoil but it burned off way too much even though the engine ran noticeably smoother. Now its valvoline 5w30 with no complaints.
