Oil pressure light on
1996 A4 FWD 12V 137k
My oil pressure light lit up steady yesterday on the way home from work. Nothing seemed terribly out of the ordinary as far as noises or driveability. I parked it, let it sit a bit, restarted and the oil light came on within about 10 or15 seconds again, so I shut her down.
I had it towed to a local shop and they are going to run a diagnostic on it today. Trying to anticipate my pain and straighten things out before everyone is off for the holidays, can anyone describe what steps I should take, whether its a DIY-able fix,and/or what the cost may be to repair the following scenarios I've read about on the forum?:
1)Bad oil pressure sending unit
2)Oil sludge clogging screen/pump/etc.
3)Others?
Thanks!

Almost every time i have gotten an oil pressure light on a 12V V6 its been the sending unit, not sludge. Which is good news for you because if the oil pressure readings are ok the only thing you have to do is change the sensor.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that its nothing more than that.
I have to confess that in the past couple years, my audi experience has turned from one of pleasure to one of paranoia as she gets older and more fragile. Beats having a car payment though if I can keep her running well for another year or two though without too many major repair bills...
