I've got an '05 1.8 and I'm coming up on the first service and oil change and the owners manual requires(?) the use of "VW 502 00 Oil".

SO...

---Is this a thinly-veiled Audi scam to sell their own oil?

---What brands of oil comply with this standard?

---Will it really void the warranty if I use something else?

and...

---Are there any synthetics that comply with 502 00?

Audi changes your oil for free. Bring it to the dealer. After 50K mi. change it with synthetic. I use Mobil 1 0W-40.
