Oil sensor confusion?!....
My car recently ditched all its oil thanks to a not-so-good service, and in trying to ensure that it is checked over satisfactorily I have had two seaparate Audi garages give contradicting advice -
One states that if the oil pressure dropped below a set limit, the oil sensor would recognise this and cause the engine to stop/stall, though this would not work in the case of a mass loss of oil (in the case of the sump plug thread coming loose).
The other garage stated that a loss of oil/pressure would only bring on the oil warning light (a far more believable explanation).
Can someone clear up this confusion please?
Unfortunately the engine started to make a knocking noise before I was able to pull off the road - any advice as to how I can ensure they fix the problem correctly? (rather than just fill it with thicker oil/STP).
Thanks,
DH

AFAIK there is no safety kill on the car for low oil pressure.
Sounds like you need an engine rebuild, new bearings. If the oil change was done at a garage/oil change shop, contact them ASAP. If they give you issues, get a lawyer.
