Default oil sludge

hey guys i did a search on the oil sludge problems with the a4 and didnt really come up with much. I recently picked up a 2001 1.8t a4 and drove it for about a day and a half and the low oil pressure light came on and my car started to sound liek a diesel, so i took it in to the dealership and they flushed everything out and put a new oil filter on. they informed me that they have to clean the oil pan out from all the oil sludge that might be built up causing my low oil pressure light to come on. what i need to know is when this light comes on is it usually caused by the oil sludge and is the oil sludge problem covered under an extended warrantee because if its not im out $2000. so if you can help out that would be great.

If you have all the receipts for oil changes, I'd go after them.

What kind of dealership did you buy it from and where are you located?

This is not the sort of problem that a dealer didn't know about. Some provinces, at least Ontario has , I believe some laws about used cars and shortterm failure.

I would give the dealer the car back and demand my money back. If they don't, check the laws and return with a lawyer.

Sludge is from lack of being maintained (oil change), it will not be covered under an extended warranty. Also sludge on the pan is common cleaning the pan is not going to help you. You might have some sludge in the pickup or on the top of the motor that is where you need to look, flush that crap out a few times if you think there is any kind of internal damage and maybe the extended warranty will but that there was a failure in the pump or something that would have cause the damage. But SLUDGE is an evil word in the service industry
