Default Oil Smell????

I have a 01 1.8T and when I shut the car off after driving it I can smell like a burning oil smell like oil hitting the exhaust. If I reach my hand behind the engine by the passenger side by the head I can feel fresh oil on my hand. Nothing leaks under the car, so I am not sure where it is coming from. The car only has 37k miles on it. Any ideas?

Default RE: Oil Smell????

I am having the same issue. I just bought a 2002 a4 monday and have noticed the same smell. It is usually strong right out of the car and fades fairly quickly. I to thought it mich be oil hitting the manifold or something like that. Took it to the dealership where I had purchased it to have it detailed and asked them what the smell could be, their reply was it was maybe the brakes and that they sometimes do that, my opinion of that is BS since it was a volvo dealership. I am curious if you have found the answer to your question. Thanks for your time.
