Default RE: Oil Smell????

We are having a similar problem with our 02 A4. The car smells like oil when parked in the garage. Under the car NO leaks. Checked under the hood with a flashlight looking for any oil leaks. Didn't find any. We did need to add a quart after 5000 miles. Never needed to before.
Car has about 60K. Just out of warranty.
Any thoughts here would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same prob when I bought my car . It was a burning oil smell. After a week i COULD SEE IT SMOKING A LITTLE. I thought it was due to a recent oil change performed at the dealership. It turns out it was the cam cover gasket. I called audi and they told me if the car is not being driven frequently and sits for a little while, in my case it sat at the dealership for a 6 weeks before I bought it , this will cause the gasket to go bad. I couldn't believe it but thats what audi told me. The dealership where I bought it fixed the prob and it has been running strong ever since.

When did you notice the smoke or smell? Did you need to open the hood and look at engine compartment or could you see the smoke without opening the hood?

I could smell burning oil. I didint really see much until I drove it hard for about an hour. Then I could see a little bit of smoke burning off of the exhaust manifold. The price at an independent shop was $900. Its def not cheap.

Here is the scoop. We brought the A4-1.8T to the dealer today. Told them we needed an oil change and to check why we had an oil smell.
Dealer's response. We have a small cam gasket leak. The oil leaks down onto the Catalytic converted and burns off. That is why no drops on garage floor. Asked is this under warranty. NO Told them this is outrageous. They had been servicing the car since new. NOW that it is 7K past warranty they will not fix it. I said they should have found the leak at the last service interval. WE are not finished with this yet. Monday we go to the manager and or owner.
On top of this. They charge us $20 to check for the leak. I though all inspection were fee or atleast included with the oil service.
If anyone know of a way for us to convince the dealer/Audi to cover this reapair, We Are Interested.
Thanks,
Auditwins
