Default Ok lets talk about turbo's

I was talking to a close friend of mine, who is an audi guy, and one of the few people I trust with any of my cars.. The APR tune i have sucks ***** it was never finished and im going to be installing scat rods and some other upgrads to the motor. Well we got into a discussion on ball bearing turbos and journal bearing turbos and we talked about price reliabilty and how easy and cost effective they were to have rebuit. If I went to a bigger turbo i would buy a 30r buy they cost around 1500 or so, and it like 800 to have it rebuilt. I can go with a T3/t4 hybrid gain a bit of lag still make serious power I think he said a t3/ 60-1 would be a comperable turbo to the 30r, which i can pick up new for what a new CHRA install for my gt28rs will cost, and its only 200 bucks to rebuild. I dont know much about turbo or what to get but are there really any huge benifits to a ball bearing turbo. seams to me if i can get the right hybride get a custom tune i would be far better off then I am with the gt28rs and the crapy unfinished apr tune..

the main advantage with a ball bearing turbo is spool up time. because there's so much less friction on the turbo shaft, you build boost a lot quicker than you would with the equivalent journal bearing turbo.

get a GT series. you would be hating life if you went from a GT28rs to a t3/t4 the size of a 30r. way too much lagg

ya thats a little bit larger then what i had on my car on stock internals. you wont be able to run as much boost as i did unless you build the motor or blow yours up

oh, well thats the thing the reason im thinking about a larger turbo is because im puting scat rods in, with a bottom end refresh, bearings rings, ect and fixing my vavle seal problem. also looking at this turbo for less lag http://cheapturbo.stores.yahoo.net/gat350trw63a.html.. my goal is around 340-380whp and i have a water meth system im going to install as well
