Default Opinions and Advice!?

hi i just have a few questions on what I should do cause im not sure. First off im 16 and have just enough money saved up to get a B5. Ive always wanted a german car its just hard to persaud my parents who come from honda/acura reliability. Im just wondering if i get a higher mileage a4 (over 100,000) what maintenance costs would be like and how much more life i could get out of the car. I also wanna do a few performence mods. I would probly have the car checked out at a shop before i get it to make sure everythings running good

depends on how you want to mod the car... if you get a 2.8, you will have less maintence cost and probably see a few more miles out of it, but the 1.8t is far superior for modification.... its really how much work you wil do in the end. if your going as far as building the internals of a 1.8 then it doesnt matter how many miles are on it because you willbe replacing everything important anyway. if you are going to just chip a 1.8, then buying a v6 and doing minor mods would be smarter...choice comes down to future plans.

yeah thats somthing to im deciding between the 1.8t or 2.8.......with the 2.8 i already have the extra power but if i go for the 1.8t i could mod it later on and make it faster.....oh and im also looking at years 1999.5 and higher

Hey man I was in your position almost a year ago, im still 16. I chose to get a turbo eclipse. It was fast but not reliable. I decided after selling my eclipse I wanted a german performance car and I picked audi. I got my b5 1.8t quattro manual for $6300. It has 115,000 miles and it has quite a bit of pep for only intake right now. It's a great platform for a car and I would suggest getting one. It's up to you whether you want a 2.8 or a 1.8t, just do some research and make your own choices. You will be happy which ever way you go.

where in ny do you live? i your 16, i suggest getting the 2.8 because it's a bit more reliable than the 1.8t but has less mods available. some easy and affordable things you can do to the 2.8 is a chip, exhaust and intake. the 1.8t has a ton more but they cost a bit more. i would suggest you get the 2.8 though. mine has been unbelievably reliable since i got it in june. some things you'll need to look for is timing belt and control arms. can't think of anything else ATM.
