Opinions of Handling
I've driven both the 1.8TQ Sport and the WRX. I've taken them both through a road that winds through a ravine in my town. Hard to describe on a forum, but it's a left-right-left with undulating hills. Both cars go through it with ease at 130kph. To put some perspective on it, my other car is a 2000 Accord. It feels as strained at 90kph as the Audi/WRX does at 130 through the same road.
The WRX does feel more nimble, though. The lighter curbweight and all.

alright thanks for the replys
well, i know the ferrari would beat them out but they are mad expensive and i couldn't afford one anywhere in the near future, whole reason that i am asking is because I am in the market for the new car, and i could afford either the EVO or STi
and really karts aren't for the streets, but they would kick ***
i would like to use the car in the occasional auto-x day at the track and time attacks, but for the most part it will be my daily car[i have a few other cars to use, worthless for tracks], and pretty much any car that i get i believe i would customize the suspension and rims/tires, and ride comfort means very little to me in the scheme of things
so you would put the A4 about just under the EVO or STi???

Probably less...Evos and STis are pretty hardcore, and their suspension hardware and set-up reflects that. Audis are biased towards safety and comfort, albeit with a sporting edge, but if you were gonna change the suspension then you could engineer out the understeer in the Audi.
Lidonnit's evaluation is probably pretty accurate. Our cars are fun, and with a sway bar they'll slide the right wheels, and with good tires I have yet to even get a squeal out of my car through the bends.
You could definitely get an A4 to match an Evo on the skidpad. The real difference between an Evo and an A4 is the level of feedback and adjustability through the steering. It would take alot of work to make an A4 feel as sporting as an Evo.
If you don't care about ride quality, and you want to auto-x and track your car, I would buy an STi over an Audi. It's just set up better to do that kind of thing.

its much better. I tried them both when i bought my car so maybe tahts why i think so highly of it. I can only get my tires to squeel when taking a turn really fast. I have had some training in driving so that might be why tehy dont squeal as much. BUt with some swaybars and coilovers u will love ur car. It will have great handling. BUt the thing u have to ask ur self is how important is safety to u when ur on the road. IF u want a daily driver that is safe with the occasional trip tro the track or auto-x then buy a a4 and get soem coilovers and it will be great. I feel teh ride on teh wrx is a little hard and teh audi rides much better.
its funny, i was in the exact same situation as this guy, all the skooby's were like 15 grand at least, and my buget wuz 10, so i found an audi, and so far, i have destroyed many a stock wrx and the canyons, and can kind of keep up with sti's but its just too much power to overcome...
with some suspension tuneing by a pro, you could easily out manuever an sti. If u drive it correctly, im sure with the right amount of power, on the downhill, you could semi-keep up with a porshe if you pushed hard.
I love the quattro system, it simply harnesses the power that only 2 wheels could not

Yikes! I drive so many different cars... I'm on the verge of 50 so I've also owned many cars in my life such as 3 different Porsches (356, 914, 911), driven a Ferrari, WRX's, Newest Z, G35, RX8, all the nissans (except for Z they can't handle) own a Mirage Turbo (still) and honestly driven nearly everything that can be rented from a rental agency. I'm NOT an expert as I don't race these cars but from an everyday perpective I'll give you my experience. I always felt NOTHING would out handle my 1971 914 which was not in stock form. It was amazing car between the brakes and the turns, way to much fun considering it was an 85HP monster
. Cars are so much more sophisticated now and the tire technology is light years better. That being said I would put my current 2000 A4 1.8TQ at the top of the heap in terms of shear handling prowness while maintaining a level of comfort that is way above normal. In stock form as mentioned in other posts I would call it a "safe" handler. It will keep 99% of your everyday driver out of trouble. Of course these forums are the probably the 1% exception. I have Koni's set fairly hard on Eibach springs, HSport sway bars, 17" Avantgarde wheels with Michelin sport series 2 rubber. A degree and half negative camber with the car sitting 1.6 inches lower than stock. I haven't found 11/10ths in this car because I'm scared and have a family! [&:] I can tell you that this comfy car can hammer the turns! It's amusing to watch sport cars disappear in my rear view mirror. There's my .50 cents
