Other Wierd Starting Problem Theard
Ok...well from the research I've done its probably the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Here's what happens. It's starts fine in the morning it starts fine after work...but when I go to the gym and try to start the car when I'm done it won't. I wait about 5 seconds, try again and it works. Same thing happens whenever I drive then try to restart within an hour or so. Now after I start the car after it does this I get an ECP light. I turn the car off and turn it back on...it goes away. Is that normal?
Anyone have the same problem?
Anyone have the same problem?
I have a 97 1.8T Quattro that I have the same issue with. When it warms up it just doesnt want to start but it doesnt happen all of the time. I had thought that maybe it was the ignition switch starting to go but Coolant Temp Sensor makes sense too. I will replace it and let you know if it works otherwise its a new ignition switch -- this is of course assuming that Audi's suffer from the same problem that VW's do with regards to the ignition switch. On that note does anyone know if there is a way to know if the ignition switch is working from the dash lights in an Audi? In a VW the battery light stays on when cranking to show that the ignition switch is working.
thanks

I replaced the Engine Coolant Thermostat (ECT) and things seem to be working well. Its only been a few days but the problem hasnt resurfaced.
I couldnt pull the codes since i dont have a VAG or other OBDII reader and there isnt anyone in the area that will read the codes for free like our US friends.
I will post again to confirm in about a week but so replacing the ECT is the solution
