Overheating
New member w/ '97 A4 overheating problem. Took car to dealer for temp sensor replacement. Got the car back a day later running hot, (midway between mid and hot) took car back to dealer. They were stumped and in their process (lasted two weeks) replaced thermostat, radiator, rebuilt vicious fan, checked the dash instruments and bent me over. I have the car now but it still heats up intermittently while driving especially under load. Also now the air compressor does not seem to work, no dash light no sound of the compressor kicking in + have the "check engine" light back on. The car does not seem to be loosing any fluids, no rad. water loss. Any ideas.... TIA KP

RE: Overheating
Not sure what you mean by air compressor. If you mean the air conditioning compressor isn't working, check to see if the electronic secondary fan is working. If you turn on the A/C the electric engine fan should go on. if it doesn't, your car will run hot when in slow traffic and the A/C will cut out.

RE: Overheating
9999, Thanks for the input. The air conditioning compressor is what I was refering to. The electronic secondary fan IS working when I turn on the A/C. Should the 2nd fan be running any other time like at idle? When the car was indicating running hot the A/C and the 2nd fan would NOT come on.

Great advice except for one thing; my lawyer is BLACK and as soon as he walked in to the dealer, he would be the reigning chief crook and bottle washer.

i would suggest a different approach. maybe something a little more polite.
