I took my 97 A4 into the mechanic and they pointed out that the boot covering the tie rod had melted and exposed all the tie rod parts. He told me that I had to replace the whole tie rod, which will be expensive. Is it possible to replace the boot or do I really need a whole new tie rod?

I've never seen just the boot being sold.

 

me niether. i would replace the te rods. i would have the shop do the labor but you can get the parts cheeper pretty muc hanywhere but the dealer or a suspension shop. know what i mean
