hi, im worried about the new audi a4 tq (98) i purchased, i found a normal power steering fluild container in boot i asked the owner of the car, he said he had toped it off with normal fluid, i strait away drained the p/s fluid and put audi fluid in there, but i want to know how much damage has this done? is there a way to find out?

It really depends on how much and how long it was in there, but as long as you drained it i dont think theres much more that you can do..... If the ps pump dies at least you know why but hopefully youll get lucky and it didnt cause to much damage

 

Well, the second question is why he had to top up the fluid? Was it leaking already?

When you said you drained the fluid out, did you just empty the reservoir, or did you disconnect the hoses and drain the entire system?

 

i took the hoses off, everything is fine now im just worried about why he had to refill it, maybe a leak? would the worst case be the hoses?

 

Worst case is probable the rack or somthing to that effect i dont know what audi is set up though

 

Id say it could probably be any one of these connections but worse case is deff a messed up rack

I use universal syntetic blend ATF. I will use it until the whole system fails, then I will do a rebuild.

 

Someone put the wrong fluid in mine and now the pump is whining when i turn i suck out the resovor a few times added the right fluid noise is still there i am going to pull the lines tonight i guess on a 97 2.8 where is the best spot to drain from?

 

Just did one flush? I'd let it go for a week or so then flush it again to get it all out of there.
