Default parking my car in neutral...question

So if I have my car parked in neutral...is it necessary to step on the clutch when starting it?

Whenever my dad drives my car, he still fumbles with the starting process, and goes at it a couple times without putting the clutch in until he remembers. Anyway...

I always put mine in gear too even if I'm not on the slightest incline, good habit. My friend left his wife's Jetta in neutral and had the E-brake fail. Needless to say, he got a call while he was working that his car pwned someone elses car. I usually put it in first irregardless of which way I am likely to roll though, I figured the engine's compression would hold it from moving forwards (or backwards).

same here, they also teach how to leave the front wheels when parked on a hill so the car wont go very far if it does start to roll.
