I'm lookin for something to replace my Concert original casette deck in my 2002 A4, and in my research I came over this double din adapter for A4:

Here is an overview of speed sensor input, use at your own risk.

Hope that helps.

Thanks again Galilee.

I have fortunately gotten some help at the AVIC-X1R forum after I posted my problems there as well. You can read it here.

I have solved the speed pulse issue. Fortunately for me, the speed pulse was located in the main ISO plug. It was the connector marked GA (Short for GALA, whatever that means) on my Symphony unit. that made it very easy to connect. The VAG cars with this connection is probably the best cars to connect such navigation equipment to because the speed pulse is so conveniently hooked up to the Audi stereo. Look at these picture for a short description :

This is the sticker on my Symphony unit that describes all the functions of the ISO connectors. Look at the top connector for the GA referance...

And here's a look at how I connected the cable from my Pioneer hide away gyro unit.

It seems like you where correct about the antenna adapter anyway. It's the amplified adapter that's supposed to be used to solve my problem. I have ordered one on eBay, and I should have it by the end of the week. Look at this eBay link for a picture of the item I have ordered, and a good explanation of what it does.

Sorry about the misunderstanding here...

I have also painted my face plate and I'm quite happy about the end result. Look at these images, and feel free to give me your personal views on my DIY modification

Here's the unit with the screen down...

And here's the unit with the screen up...

And finally a close up.

I would have bought the adapter plate you recomended also to see how that would look, but I don't think it will fit my car. It seems like there are differences in the dash on the 2000 and the 2002 model that it's designed for. It probably would give me the same problems as the Metra kit did. It would either be a little to wide or thin in both height and width. Thanks anyway, but I'll think I'm going to let the face plate issue rest for now, and be happy with my own DIY solution.

Thank you all for your help and input.

dingboy well done on ur custom job face plate, it looks very well fitted but in my opionion u should sand it with very fine sandpaper untill itis smooth and u cant tell it is wood. or u can get fiberglass resgin and just paint it on then sand it down and u will get that smooth look.

whats the color of you're car? you could try and fiberglass over the wood, and then color match it to the outside of the car.. it could turn out cool, or it could turn out to look like a PT Cruiser [:'(].. either that or vynal it i guess.
