Pollz0rz: Chip or Sound System first?
So this up and coming paycheck is going to provide me with enough cash to (FINALLY) be able to get a chip in the car, or install my sound system.
I've wanted to get a chip forever, but I've had so many expenses ($3,000 in the past month) for other ****, that I just can't afford it right now. But, now that I've brushed all of that crap aside, I can finally afford upgrades. Now, for the chip, it's really straightforward; it's going to be APR, since I know a good local place that installs. I just go and get it done, then leave and probably get into an accident on the way home while I get all giddy over the newfound horses that have made my engine their home.
The sound system is a little more complicated; I have two brand new Alpine Type-R's that I ordered off eBay, and a Zapco 750.2 amp, but I'm missing ... everything else. I know some guys in this area though, that can do everything for ~ $550, including Morel mids/highs, enclosures, installation, wiring, handjo--- wait, that's not included.
So, bottom line is; ~$545 for the chip and ~$550 for the sound system that's going to be so unbelievably powerful, even Brian will get wet.

(I'm bone stock besides the upgrades I have listed in the siggy)

i gave up the sound system stuff a few years ago, if your stock bose speakers are working well, then the stock system is really good compared to other cars.
Plus you will freaking love the chip!

Well i personally would go speed because thats what im all about. But to each his own. If you do go sound, poast a pic of the deck and what it looks like after. im still trying to find a deck that matched the internal lighting of the car and that fits in nicley with a molded dash, which i am yet to find also.
this is a very hard decision even though it's not my car dammit lol. well, i think i would do the sound system because a chip can cause some parts on ur car that are on it's way out the door to get kicked out the door. then u'll have to buy new other stuff too. as for the sound system, that won't happen. so i would do the sound system first and then save up more for the chip later. jsut my .02 though

if something else does brake, which is possible but unlikely.... get the vw parts to fix it
i would search the classifieds for you, but i don't know what year car you have..... or you can search them or ebay for a giac or apr tunned ecu.... type in giac and apr
but me, i am a stereo freak, and i have not changed anything stereo wise in my car because i have the bose system, once something starts going out then i will look into upgrades
I had the same decision to make and I went with the chip.. it wasn't even really a decision, I knew I wanted the chip way more than sound, one of my speakers is blown, but it's not bad as to where I can't bare it.. hell, most people don't even notice it.
I would go with the chip, but hiwords has a point. right now I'm paying for a clutch, and I wish I didn't get the chip at all at this point.. because I just got a call from my mechanic, and found out my flywheel is probably irrepairable... so now I have to make another $500 appear out of no where. I've only had the car for about 1700k miles and its only got 60k on it.. I have no idea what the owner did to the clutch, i have a feeling his whole neighbor learned how to drive standard on it.
anyway, my point? it's make sure everything else is in order before you splurge on goodies.. if everything is in order.. I'd go with the chip, before sound, unless of course your sound doesn't work at all.

Two of my speakers are blown out, it's a non-bose system. The car is all fine and dandy for chipping, I already have a new DV in it and I've been keeping track of fault codes. It's clean right now. I'm going to seafoam + change the oil, then drive it for a bit before I chip it, just to ensure everything is in perfect shape. But those are additional expenses; I mean, I can afford them, but the subs and amp are in boxes downstairs and I'm twitching to install them. I don't want to attract attention to a slow car, though. So I don't know, I'll probably just get chipped and wait two weeks, then do the sound system.
On the other hand, sound systems attract girls... especially if the amount of bass is enough to break the frame of your car, and little Leif has a crush on a girl who stops into his work a couple of times a week, so he might as well try to impress her? Let's be realistic, chicks dig crazy sound systems, so I might as well one-up her with eargasmic thumps as opposed to giving her a heart attack as I floor it.

does she even know you drive an audi, that might make her more wet than either, you, tunes, or speed, but as long as your foot isn't in the pedal all the time, tunning your car will give you better gas mileage, and that extra savings you can use toward the tunes
