Possible new owner:
Hi guys and gals! I've been on here for a little while, but haven't posted much. I'm going to buy a used A4 1.8T on Monday or Tuesday and was wondering if there is anything major I should look for. I already know about the timing belt issues, but are there any other things I should watch out for? It's a 2003 A4 Avante Quattro 1.8T. Silver on Tan. It has 71177 miles on it, but it is a single owner car. It came from a 70+ year old couple. It was traded in on a new Legacy GT, and is going for 10990 on the Suby lot. There is no factory warranty, but the dealer does offer an extended warranty for it. 3/36 powertrain. The timing belt has NEVER been changed, but like I said, I know for sure the car wasn't beat on(at least I hope not by an older couple). Even still, the warranty will cover it if(when) it fails. Other than that, the tires are all brand new, no oil leaks, never been in an accident(clean carfax). I've heard a lot about the stock turbo having a short lifespan and usually going around 70k. Is there any truth to this? I'm not looking to mod this car AT ALL(I already have a 400+ whp SRT4). The dealer is going to give me 7500 for a trade(2008 Hyundai Accent), so it really is only 3500 out of pocket to me. So what do you think? Is it worth it, or should I keep looking?
