is it possible to switch cd/radio from 99 to 00
I was just wondering if it is possible to replace the stock radio from 99.5 a4 to a 2000 + model radio. I know the face that houses the radio and climate control would have to be carried over from the 2000, but would the wiring match up?
The reason I want to change because the radio in my a4 has a tape stuck in it and bought the car with no cd changer in the trunk. so instead of buying a changer and new radio thought i'd go ahead and upgrade to an indash cd player from a newer a4. let me know if this is possible or what needs to be done to make it possible. or if not then tips on getting the stuck tape out.
One other question- how do i take out the sideview mirror glass? does the whole housing need to come off or can i just replace the mirror?
Thanks

I don't know about replacing the dash - it'd probably be more cost-effective, and definitely simpler, to just buy an aftermarket head unit and CD changer and install that.
As for the mirrors, they are held in with clips. Just use the power adjustment to angle it as far to one side as it'll go (so you can fit your fingers in next to it) and give it a nice firm pull. Should pop right out.

Or if you want, I could sell you my old factory system. I've got a Delta head unit and a CD changer, took them out when I installedmy Alpine system.PM me if you're interested.
edit: NVM, you've got Concert.

putting another stock set back in would be my last resort- i would much rather have the indash cd player. i dont want a non stock cd player. is the switch possible? are connections the same?
I am going to go ahead and get the symphony single cd radio unit from a 2001 a4 and replace the ac unit as well since they are different 99.5 and 2001. so I am guessing that i also need to replace the radio/ac unit cage or mount - not sure what its called. has anyone tried removing this cage? are the connections fromthe old radio/cassette unit different from the new symphony unit. Thanks for any input.
the factory wiring for the radio will be the same and if you just want the factory changer i got one for you ill sell it to you with mounting bracket and possibaly some cds i bought the car from out of state with the factory radio in it and when it was on the rig to my house at a rest stop someone broke it and stole the factory radio and messed up the dash and i just replaced the radio with a pioneer 5800mp and removed the changer i have no idea if it works but the friend i bought it from says that it worked but im not sure so let me know if you what it
