Potential wallet raping?
Ok I took my car to the stealership to have them look at my ABS (yes bad idea but they're 5 minutes away oh well), and came back with...the "electric part" of the ABS module is faulty because there was no communication with rest of the system and the hydraulic side is fine. Basically I gotta get a kit to change the "electrical side" of the module and its $514 plus $300 labor...um yea, like I got that kinda money layin around. Anyways I got the part # so I'm searching for a cheaper deal. They say its a 2hr job so I'm thinking I could DIY. I can work wonders on a humvee but clueless about audis. What do you guys think and where can find this part at lower a price...sorry about the essay lol
p.s. my brakes work fine and don't lock up at high speeds (believe me I tried)

complicated sods the ecu on them, you need to access the multi connector to check for power probing the wires is the only way unless you have a break out box, your is a 27 pin connector so we start on the ECU,
pins 15 is + and 14 is ground so putting a voltage test meter between them will give battery voltage ( ignition on ),
pin 17 and ground ignition off gives battery voltage,
pin 18 and ground ignition off gives battery voltage,
pin 19 and 16 to ground give zero OHMS,
the biggest fail on these systems are failed or bad ground which means the track on the PCB inside the ECU is probably broken ( thats pin 14 on the ECU ) if that happens the ECU becomes dead

garages don't like telling you this information because it takes money away from them they would rather fit a so called new one ( which is refurbished ) then get your old one refurbished and make a killing on sales
Yep, they don't have the ABS parts for a 98.
Hey Avant you kinda lost me there. Are you sayin the problem is really at the ECU and not ABS module or its the connection thats faulty, or the ABS ECM????[sm=dontgetit.gif]

did you know how many cars use that ECU
http://www.bba-reman.com/content.asp...mmonly_failing
so now you have a wider car choice to look for a spare preferably at the breakers yard

I thought the #1 cause of the bosch abs module failure is that water gets on it and sits on the top and falls through and jacks up the diodes or whatever is inside of the casing??? Thats just what i read a while back on az or aw...
Ok I'm still a little confused...The hydraulic side of is fine, its the electrical part...but is it all in one unit or the "electrical part" (ECM) located in another area of the car?

the ECU case is very well sealed so this shouldn't happen but an inspection will only prove that, in many cases when I have done them it was down to bad grounding
