Default power steering fluid

I checked my power steering fluid level when recently doing some work on the car and found the fluid to have a burnt smell. Is this normal fluid level was fine. Looked around couldn't find any other posts on the matter.

what color is the fluid? Is it dark? Burnt smelling fluid usually means a failing power steering fluid pump.

It was a light brownish color. Just had the pump replaced about a year ago. Pump has been whining but only when it is 15 or below

the fluid should be green. You may want to flush the fluid with some new.

Any special procedures I should use when flushing. Fluid definetly is not green.

If you get under your car, you will notice two lines going to the reservoir. Remove them both and drain the tank and the lines as best as you can. Reconnect the lines and fill with Pentosin 11s. Drive the car for a week or so and repeat the process.

i'm also hearing the whining noise when i turn the wheel. especially in the first few minutes after i start driving in the morning. is this a sign for a failing pump?
