I think mine is going... gettin louder, how much does this usually cost?
im not going to dealer, german car mechanic.. and if its not too hard, may do myself

 

Before you start replacing parts, find out what is wrong. On these cars, the main symptom of steering rack failure is leaking.

Are you sure it is your steering rack that is making noise? Have you checked your power steering fluid level? Is it your power steering pump? Are you concerned about the steering column squeeking which is easily solved my changing the position of the steering tilt and telescoping angle.

 

i know i have a leak in the rack, the level is low, i think thats why its makin noise, if not makin the pump make noise, im gonna fill up and see if there are any sloutions to plug it up that dont cost me a grand

 

If you are putting in fluid, make sure you use Pentosin 11S, not "steering fluid" from PEPboys or the like. This will blow your seals and then you definately will have a rack. problem. Often the leak is from the hoses coming from the SP pump, not the rack itself. Try to find the source of the leak.
