whats up. i need to replace the power steering rack on my 1996 a4 2.8 . does anyone know where i can order this part for a decent price? and, does anyone have instructions on how to put it in?

What make you think you need a new rack?

 

took it to the audi dealership..they told me. ive had problems wit the power steering since i had the car. i thought i had fixed it but i guess not.

Yeah a rack is a more of a rare replacement item. Plus its a PITA and a half.

 

my power steering is suckin all the fluid rite into it and then its leaking it back out. i tried flushing it many times and it only held up for like 2 weeks. so i took it to the dealer and told them what was happening and they told me it was the rack.

 

Assuming that the leak isn't from the power steering pump or the hoses , it does sound like steering rack is shot.

Hopefully someone looked at it at the shop, not just told you what was wrong based on your description.
