I've been having difficulty with my power windows since I purchased the car a few weeks ago, but I think I am onto something. I've noticed that sometimes when I start the car, everything works (all windows and sunroof, illuminated switches etc.). But then, usually when I open the door for the first time, the switch lights go out and nothing works anymore. Also, the auto dimming interior lights stay on far too long most of the time, when the car is running it could take 30-40 seconds for them to dim.
I'm thinking that its one problem causing both of these symptoms. I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly) that there is a control module which senses when the key is in the on position. perhaps the module isn't recognizing the keys position and the fact that the motor is running?

Can anyone help me out on this?
