Default power window problems....

Has anyone else had problems with their power windows?? My nissan is almost 10 years old and I have never had one problem with the power windows, my Audi is 5 years old and I've had to replace the passenger and two back window regulators...now the driver side window is f***ed.....I'd love to spend this money on mods.....

are you sure its the regulators and not the switches or do they need resetting ie: press and hold the button till the window goes all the way down the the same all the way up

aud windows are not necessarily known to go out, but they have definately been reported to take a dump on you every once in a while, some people just get bad electrical window systems.

Yeah its the window regulator. Its making the same noises the other ones did before they broke...grinding, cracking, and popping. I talked to an Audi/BMW mechanic today about it...he said the window tint on my car heats up (i live in florida, so its real hot and hummid) and sticks inside the rubber seal of the door so the window regulator is pulling real hard on the window then POP! it comes down. After a while I guess it eats the wires up and it stops working. Its def. not the switch because it will go up and down...until the regulator breaks all the way....

I'm gonna bring this thread back to ask my question instead of starting a new thread. I think I'm having the same problem with my Audi, accept 3 of the 4 have taken a ****, strangely enough the one that gets used the most is the only one that works. The passanger side rear one is starting to act up itll go up and down but makes a grinding noise, and sometimes I'll try to make it go up and itll go down and all kinds of crazy stuff. Right now the other 2 are just tied up with zip ties until I figure out whats wrong with them. I found a little white plastic thing that looks to be like a gear broken in half on the inside of the door panel. Strange that this isn't a common problem since 3 of my 4 don't work at all. But any advice/opinions would be great. Thanks.

Kyle

I posted this as a reply to another window issue:

ORIGINAL: veloracer

Sounds like the window clips are at fault again. This is looking more like a common occurrence among Audi drivers. I know that VW has a recall on the New Beetle and Jetta for this very same issue... the plastic window clips are breaking & causing damage. The VW stealerships are replacing the plastic clips with metal ones... but only for those cars affected by the recall. So far, there is no recall for the A4, but you should report this incident to Audi USA. If Audi does happen to issue a recall, keep all your receipts. They will reimburse you.

The key is for anybody whom this has happenned to, report it to Audi USA and maybe they'll listen & issue a recall for the window clips.
We should really call/write to Audi USA to let them know of this issue, and maybe they'll issue a recall. Just wondering... can we get some sort of sticky up on the board to let others know about this issue?

You wanto to know whats funny.....One of the rear windows I replaced a year ago just took a dump on me.....I replaced it with OEM parts (big mistake!!) the other two (passenger and the one behind passenger) I replaced with aftermarkte and they are still going strong....why are these cars so expensive if they put cheap **** in them?

Its probably a bad window switch. Try unplugging it and see if the ghosts go away.

Thats an entirely different problem The glass comes out of the regulator assembly and then falls into the door. On audis the regulator goes south but the glass is still attached to the regulator. I wouldnt expect to see a recall as the failure rate is pretty low..

My first Audi, my first post!

So, along with the many problems I knew about when I saved this baby from the sin bin, the driver's window has the "ghost" effect described above. It is all over the place, up and down, down and back up all while pressing the switch in one direction. It's now so bad that it's also off the track.

What causes the craziness in the controls? Is it the switch or the contoller?

Thanks,

Red D.
