ok so i was filling up my gas tank and was reading that it says to put 91 octane or premium into the tank. now do i really need to have premium in the tank. or is it not a big deal ? i put the premium in but the 87 octane is 10 cents cheaper. i dont know if any of you guys live in wisconsin but the prices are sky high so i pay 2.62 for the premium ... insane !!! ... let me know i'm still a student and need every penny to save and fix some things with the car. thanks

I use 91 or 94 and yes it is putting a hole in my pocket right now, but then again the cost of a bottle of water is still more money than gas.
I heard on the news reciently that a drum of fuel is at the highest it has ever been it cost me $48.00 to fill up my 94 golf CL yesterday at 96cents a litre for regular i'm getting afraid to start driving my A4 soon

So you pay 10 cents less?
So at .10 x 15.9 gal (quattro b5 fuel tank) you save 1.59. Now say you fill up once a week.*52 weeks in a year = $82.68
Using 87 = knocking, and possible engine problems.... which will cost you more than 82.68
just use premium and keep you car safe
ok thanks i really dont want anything to happen haha i dont have much money to fix it ... i'll use the premium ... would using less then 91 cause a missfire do you know ? ... i had a check engine light and it was b/c of a missfire on piston 2 and somthin with the intake sensor
Usually you will get engine knock not misfire for low octane. Run a search for CYL 2 misfire. There are many people with misfire on cyl 2 usually caused by a bad batch of Ignitors that had bad solder for the lead going to cyl 2.
Not sure what the "intake sensor" is. AFAIK there isn't a part with that name. Could you mean the mass air flow sensor?

yeah i meant the mass air flow sensor .... thats what also caused the engine light ... but i dont know what to do about that ... could have it just been condensation ?
yeah gas is makin a huge hole for me ...

Well ***** to all you guys. I ran 98 octane, thats the highest we can get in Australia. . . . . However ***** to me cos I have to pay $1.15 per litre (3.60 per gallon). So I guess it evens out huh.
