Price Check on Audi A4 Avant
Wondering if you guys could help me price out my Avant. After fighting with Audi to have them drop a new engine and turbo in the car I now have a check engine light and an EPC light going off. All and all I'm just sick of owning this lemon.
The original engine ran full Mobil synthetic and never went over 5k on any of it's oil changes. Audi replaced the engine for this reason.
Anyway instead of doing this all over again in 50k miles I'm dumping it. I'm hoping you can help me price it out. Looks like Avants in good condition are getting around $16k with with 50,000 miles on the clock. Does anyone know what it costs to install and new engine and turbo in one of these? Since mine was done under warranty there are no prices on the receipt.
The car is a 2001 1.8t Avant with the sport package. (52k miles) Would 20k? be asking to much? Thanks in advance for your replies, I hope you all have better luck than I did with sludge.

Here are a few pics of the car...and the already purchased replacement.
Thanks again for helping me come up with a price!

20k seems a little pricey to me
20k?!?!?! Try starting out around $15k and hope there is someone that wont mind buying into your CEL problem if you dont get it fixed. According to www.kbb.com it would go for around $14k in good condition.
I'm planning on getting the warning lights fixed before I sell it. I figured if the car is worth 15k with an original motor it's got to be worth more than that with a fresh engine and turbo.
Do you guys have any idea what a shop on average would charge to put in a new engine and turbo? I'm guessing around 5k??
thanks again, I can't imagine what folks did before online forums. I wouldn't have been able to change the oil if it weren't for you guys.

A new engine might add some, but not a lot more value to it. Engine mileage actually plays a minor role in a cars value. If you go to KBB.com and input 0 miles compared to 100k miles, youll see that it doesnt make a significant difference. But it all comes down to what its worth to the buyer when it comes to a private party sale. It may be worth $20k to you, but a car is only worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay. It may take some time to get what you want out of it, but if you have patience and stand firm on a price it will get sold for a reasonable price.. I wouldnt expect to get anything close to $20k for it though.
Great advise, thank you. That really makes sense. I'm going to put it out there for 18k and see if it gets any bites.
Even with a free engine this has been the most expensive car I've ever owned! I think it's time to cut my losses, I must have bought a lemon.
