Default Problem with an 97 A4 1.8 TQ

Hi there, I have a problem with my car. When I give full throtle the car starts to go like a kenguuru if you know what I mean. It also sounds like the dump valve lets out som off the preassure and it sounds like an eksplosion in my exhaust!!
Its like the car only runs on two or three cylinders.
Someone got any idea??
Sorry for the bad English, Im Norwegian............

Best regards Tim.

Hi welcome to the forum. Lots of useful information here, even on a holiday.

We will need some more information. Is this a new problem in a car that you have had for a long time?

Is this a car that you have recently purchased?

Is the yellow check engine light on? If your car is running that poorly I would think that it is.

Is the car running rough (like only on three cyl, or does it just lack power.

It sounds like your car is running very rich and backfiring. It could be anything from a fouled spark plug, bad ignition coils leading to misfiring, or a bad mass flow sensor or bad oxygen sensor, or a boost leak.

Those would be my first suggestions.

If you have access to a vagcom, check for codes that should help pinpoint the problem.

IHi and thanks for the reply.
I bought the car a couple off months ago, and this is a recent problem. I was at the local VAG dealer today and had them run a diagnosis on the car, they found some faults but no one relating to my problem.
We tried to change the coils but that didnt work either.
So the only thing that they thought could be wrong was that little box that sits on top of the air filter box with two connectors going in and out.
They also told me that it sounds like the car is running on only 3 cylinders, but the strange thing is that it only occurs when you accelerate hard( pedal to the metal style if you know)
The yellow chesk engine light is NOT on.
We checked all the pipes running from the turbo and IC and found nothing.
I am not sure about the mass flow sensor, is that the one who sits inside the air filter box? Or is that the oxygen sensor?
Thanks for the hellp, this really bothers me
