Quesitons on 2000 A4 Quattro 1.8 stick

I am 20 and without much notice, I have to drive an Audi a4 for my next car. My brother gets the previous car that I have used since I started driving which is a 2000 Ford Contour v6 SE. What can I expect to be different? I know little about audis. I have read up a little bit and it seems people complain about the cupholders, the cost of maintenance, and lack of power.

I also have rarely driven a manual transmission and within a few days of getting the car, I MUST make a 500 mile trip back up to school. Can anybody give me any tips? What should I expect to go from a ford contour to a audi a4? From what I know the car is in excellent condition and has had very few problems 130K miles. A good friend owns the car and says it has been reliable to him. This is the contrary of what research I have done.
