Default Question about head lights.

Hi. I used the search function but can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so I hope by posting I can get a single straight answer and not clog up your board...

I bought my Audi used (it's a 2000 A4T Quattro). One of my head lights went out this weekend, and when I went to get a replacement bulb the parts store said it was going to be about $200 bucks since it was a halogen. I went online to search for a cheaper bulb, and I'm finding bulbs for about $12 as well as some for $150-$200. I'm assuming the bulbs I have now are the stock ones.

What are the cheapest type of bulbs I can buy just to stick in and fix the issue without having to blow $200 on a single lamp? I really don't know much about cars at all, but I changed the bulb on my Trooper a couple of years ago so I don't think I'll have any problems.

Thanks in advance.

Halogen's are cheap, HID's are expensive. Figure out which one you have before ordering.

So essentially I could buy 2 of the cheaper ones and just replace them, regardless of what the other one is?

How could I tell what kind of bulb I already have?

No. At least i dont think so. Look on the inside at the ballast where the bulb plugs into. It should say Halogen or HID/xeon. If you are completely clueless just go to the dealer and ask someone to step outside and take a look to verify what type it is. Or if you can post pics that would save you a trip.

Awesome, thanks Panda.

Since you all seem like you've been doing this for a long time, any reccommendations as to which website I should order off of? Or any product recommendations?

Again, I appreciate all of your help with this.
