Default question about the MTE milage (Miles to empty )

When I first purchased my B6 and filled the gas tank, the MTE would say like 450 miles. Today, when I filled the gas tank, it only said 370 miles.

Any ideas as to why?

BTW, no mods have been made or any major changes to the car.

didn't top it off... or car was on an incline or decline so the sensor was misreading the gas level.

Ive had similar "problems" with my S4. I believe, and dont flame me if im wrong , that the range that is displayed is based on your driving habits / fuel consumption prior to filling up. Its been my experience that when i fill up after cruising on the freeway my range is usually about 360mi. However, when driving around town or driving more... spirited my range can be as low as 280 after i fill up. Just my guess based on the trends ive witnessed. please correct me if im worng.

yeah i think it calculates some kind of an average for your driving habbits and corresponds that with what your fuel level sensor says, which both can be inconsistant, so i dont pay attention to that feature.

The MTE is based on the mpg that you have recently gotten and is recorded in the ECU.

Sounds like your right foot is heavier than your left.
