question about VW warranty...
hey, i know we have audis here, but i know some people also have or have owned vw's in the past, so i figure this question isn't entirely wrong.
my friend has a 2003 passat with around 30k miles. She had her brakes replaced at the 25k service. She had to pay 900 dollars for them...and is still paying her mom back now.
i know i had my brakes replaced on my audi and that was free.
for vw's, aren't brakes covered while the car is still under original warranty?
thanks.

no car manufacturer cover brakes, wipers, clutches (except porsche), or any other wear and tear items. what you must be reffering to is audi's current program for free maintanance, many high end brands (benz, bmw, audi, maybe few others) give that as a promotion to leasees and buyers, this includes but is not limited to, to sound like really fine print with an asteric next to it, wipers, oil changes, regular maintanance, hoses, and yes, brakes.
$900 is a lot of money for brakes, my girlfriend has an '02 passat 4motion and her 40k service was that much - which i think is a lot too. i think she got an oil change, tranny and coolant flush, new plugs and wires, new brakes, and wipers.

all i know is, i got all my brakes replaced free of charge.
i also know my scheduled services under 50k miles are all free. i have one more of those too.
i checked vw's website and saw it said scheduled maintenance is NOT free like with audi...i thought it was.
yeah, the 900 for brakes is f'd. i think the dealership ripped my friend. i am trying to help her recoup some of that money now...

Brake replacement is free if the pads or rotors are worn to a min spec or turn on the brake pad warning light. I believe they did away with this in the 05 model year. VW used to be the same way. Not sure what years. The owners manuel comes with a little book called warrenty and covers exactly what is and isnt covered for each year.
