Questions About 1997 A4 18T
Hi ,
My wife and I sold our neon and started looking around for a new car, we were wanting an IS300 and then I found this 1997 A4 1.8T, it only has 72,800 miles and was driven by an old lady so we knew there was very little chance that it was abused.
I purchased it after driving it around the block a little bit.
First thing I really wanted a stick but for my price range and the miles and the shape ( flawless ) this simply was not a reason not to get the car.
I purcahsed the car got it registered ect.
After I bought it I got a chance to take it out and give it a kick in the pants, the first thing I noticed this car acts like it cannot get out of its own way.
My wife took it to the store and said she steped on it from a dead stop and it waited a little bit to go. I explained Turbo Lag to her, then we went for a spin. The car really isn't bad once the RPMS get above 2,500 rpm. It is like the turbo spools super slow.
I have used the search button and read a lot of other posts about simular subjects before making my post.
What does this thing need to be more peppy out of the hole, granted its an automatic... I am not looking to go race it or anything but when the wife got her *** handed to her by a stock honda civic she was ready to sell it.
I told her I would ask fellow audi lovers about this and we would go from there I love the car and I cannot change my mind so early in the game. I think she thought "turbo" ment that it is faster than simular stock 4 cyl cars.
Thanks,
Ronnie

You could do lots of things
Chip the car
Exhuast
Intake
Bigger turbo (BT)
For chips search APR,GIAC
Borla make s cheap exhuast for about 730 shipped!
U can do the AIRBOX MOD if ur a handy person.

a chip will really bring the car to life, look in to a GIAC chip and proabably a tip chip as well to help the tranny with the new power

Do I need to send in my ECU and leave the car parked while the mod is being done? I looked on their website and that was sorta confusing to me.
What is the cost involved, what type/version of GIAC is best for my model/year?
Finally what is a TIP Chip, how easy is it to install, I am pretty handy at working on my own stuff.

The best way to do it IMO is find hte nearest dealer and take your car therer to have it done, it only takes like an hour or so to do, and there is only one availble for your car so yea.... a tip chip is a chip for the tranny will make it shift quicker and stronger so it doesnt slip with the new power...... my chip was 395 plus 50 install i think thats about normal for a 99.5 and newer car

The car will be due for spark plugs and an air filter at 80K mi. Could do it now.

I wanted to get some new spark plugs. I looked through the books the car came with and couldn't find what type it needed.
The car has a K&N.
