I think it would be easier to run a bottle of CO2 or just a small compressor and small air tank. Compressed air is cold and you won't have to spray a liquid on your i/c.
Uh, Compressed air actually heats. I think you have it confused with gasses such as argon, nitrogen, freon etc. I don't know what could easier, samller (and cheaper) than a little 12v windshield washer pump. plastic blottle and a switch. A mixture a H2o and wood alcohol sprayed will certainly not hurt the intercooler. I'ts done all the time. Big bang for the buck!
Compressed air heats? How do you figure? Ever feel the air coming out of your tire? Is it hot? NOPE cold! Ever feel the air from an air tool? Is it hot? Nope! How about the compressed air in the cans for spraying off electronics? If either one of those senarios gives you hot air you have some problems.
And actually, an old hot rodders trick is to keep an air tank that will send compressed air through the intake for cooler air down the strip.

Well yes,as it's compressed air heats dramatically. But you're correct as all gasses do after compression, when released to atmospherice pressure they cool. It really depends on the gas, and the level of compression. Ie, the greater the compression, the more rapid the expansion when released and the greater the cooling. Now, what type of gas you use REALLY makes a difference there. For plain old air, you'll need a big bottle, and a pretty powerful compressor under the hood to get any real cooling. Otherwise you're blowing air on air. Now with freon and such it's a different story.
In the interest of keeping it simple, small, and inexpensive you can get a LOT of evaporative type cooling from water mixed with alcohol. Real efficient, and goes a long way with a good 2 quart quart bottle. Like I said, way more bang for your buck, and more efficient that a gas based compressor system.

Compressed air is hot. That is why you have an intercooler, to cool that hot compressed air.

Compressed air is hot. That is why you have an intercooler, to cool that hot compressed air.
The simplest example I can think of is the diesel engine.. What keeps those cylinders firing, after the initial glow plug action? The high degree of compression in those cylinders. (anywhere from 14:1 to 24:1) The fuel mixed with the air starts the combustion, and it repeat, and repeats..All from that highly compressed, and resultantly HOT air.
