Quick question about a chip’d car –

How do you tell what has been done to a car?
We bought a 2004 A4 1.8T at a non-Audi dealer that has supposedly been chipped by the pervious owner. We are waiting for the old owner to get back to us on what was done to the car Mod wise. We were told that he had it chipped but don’t know by who.
Is there any identifying marks put on the ECU by whoever flashed it? I tried to remove the cover to see, but I was having a hard time getting the wiper off, I couldn’t reach the back screws. It was cold and rainy so I quit messing with it.

I am assuming that Audi puts some kind of seal on the ECU. So if that is intact, then we know that we were BS’d by the sales guy.

u have b6 and lookin at the ECU physicly is pointless, they dont soder chips anymore
they reflash it, i say take it to a tuner shop like REVO, APR, GAIC and ask to see if they can see if u have their chip
just tell them u want upgrade to their big injector program but u dont kno what chip you have
good luck

I can't remember if they got my VIN when I got chipped. If so, perhaps you could call GIAC and APR to see if they have it on file. I don't know if they even keep a database like that or not, but it might be worth looking in to.

Or if you have a friend who has an A4, have him drive it and tell you if it performs like a chipped car or not.

does it feel like sombody was dragging behind your car before you get to 2000 rpm and then once you hit 3000, or so it feels like you just lost 500 lbs randomly?

then you have a chip...

if you can hear a loud high-pitched whistle when you floor it, then yea, its chipped...

Yeah, while I have not driven another A4, it does feel really peppy. It does rev up fast but it also seems to hold the revs for a second after you lift – during a quick shift it is difficult to keep it smooth.

I am just about positive that it has a chip. That is pretty much the first mod you do to a car like this. It has a full Rennen body kit and exhaust and it has been lowered. Plus there was a diverter valve still in the box sitting in the trunk. Anyone know what a RVM RBV-25mm Racing Bypass Valve is? Who makes it (RVM??) and where I can get some info on it. It looks to be new, but there is no paperwork with it, no install instructions.

Thanks,
eddie
