Default Radio Fuse

OK, so after searching the boards, and finding out everything possible...

My radio does not function, yet it has the red backlight when the headlights are on. Per some posts, this is typically the burnt out fuse behind the radio.

I removed the radio from the dash, somehow, and located the fuse behind it. It seemed to be larger than the usual, and all brown in color. It was not clear, but a solid brown.

I attempted to put another fuse in to see if it would work, but still didn't function. And it is not in SAFE mode either. Is the fuse that comes on the radio a specific type that I need to look for, or is it just like any other fuse??

My roommate actually got the radio out, and he put a 15 amp in there. It was the only one we had lying around. Didnt work of course. So, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you started by searching the fuse panel for blown fuses? (#37 maybe? ) If you don't find anything go buy a fuse checker, because it isn't always readily apparent that it is blown.

I visibly inspected each fuse in the panel to see if there were any breaks. But they were all good. I should try with a fuse checker then.

But as far as the fuse on the back of the radio, is it the same general fuse, just larger than a standard 5amp, or is it a special one that I should look for??

Go to the dealer and get the specific brown fuse you need. It costs 65 cents.
At least that would take care of that variable.

Other than that, if your #37 fuse is ok, sounds like a defective radio.

I wouldn't put a larger fuse the radion than is specified. You can end up doing more damage by allowing too much current through. What radio is it? Do you get any sound out of it at all? Some of the Bose radios have a history of that, when mine died I got a refurb from the dealer for $150.00. That was a whole lot better than what they wanted for a new one.

Flat-tip screwdriver. There is a slot at the bottom of the fuse cover. Just insert it there and gently pry outwards. It'll pop right off.
