Default Ram air box mod.

Basically this mod allows your turbo to not run out of breath as fast as with the stock air box, especially on the highway. Only cost me $15 and I love it.

Things you will need.
2" flexible exaust tubing. ($6 you can use 2.5" like i did, but you will have to move the air conditioning stuff alot to get it out of the way.)
3" to 2" rubber plumbing sizer. ($6 at home depot)
A 3" hose clamps. (to secure the pipe to the frame)
Body filler.

1. Take off your bumper, if you have stock fog lights this mod will be a problem.

2. Remove the bottom of the the air box housing.

3. Determine where the hose fits best to get from the bumper to the bottom front corner of the air box. (I used 2.5" pipe and had to move my air conditioning condenser over to get the pipe to fit.)

4. Cut a hole in the bottom front corner of the air box. (you will probably have to guess alittle on where exactly the hole will go as you cannot see it when both the air box and the hose are in place, you can fill the little gaps with body filler after wards.)

5.Put the air box lower half back in the car and feed the pipe into it.

6. Secure the pipe on the front part to some piece of frame that is the easiest for you so that it will not move.

7. Attach the sizer to make a air scoop. (this part may require some cutting to fit behind the bumper.)

8. Bondo around the gaps in the air box to form a good seal.

9. Reinstall the bumper, and away you go.

Good luck with that, I hope you dont hydrolock.

Aren't you afraid of getting water in there when it rains, or cars in front of you splash water up in there from their tires?

I'm going to put a small K&N in front of the pipe as soon as I get some more time. But K&Ns block most water as is and that is what I already have in there.

Sounds like a good idea to filter it there.

Can you tell any difference?

Just wondering. I have never had a problem with the turbo running out of breath. I think its due to the chip more than airflow. I just run a safe k/n drop in filter with the stock airbox.

I have noticed a difference. It will now hold a higher PSI longer through the rpm range. And getting on the throttle on the highway goes from vacumm to top boost much faster.

An aftermarket exhaust on your car will fix that. Turbo will pull strong until close to redline.

In theory it shouldn't hydrolock, because it should suck air in through the factory inlet under the hood before it'd have enough vacuum to pull water up that far. same concept as a bypass valve in AEM intakes for Hondas/Acuras.

that thing looks pretty sweet i doubt u will hydro lock. the bmc carbon air filter uses a pipe very similar to that one and i know a ton of ppl that run it. great job man that looks awesome. Now, come to WA state and build me a FMIC for $150 (i don't really have the time)

You could always put on of those bypass valves (I think that's what there called) behind the opening.
