For those of you that think this will hydrolock, go look up what hydrolock means. hydrolock is when the cylinder actually gets enough water in it to stop the cylinder because water is not compressible. small amounts of moisture THAT ACTUALLY GET PAST THE K&N will not affect the engine. Remember that glowing hot turbo? that's gonna vaporize any water before it goes into the engine.

air box mod and call it a day... Turbo is after the engine last time I checked it was located in the exhaust... I dont see how it will prevent water from going from the airbox to the engine??? I dont follow your logic..

The turbo is on both sides of the engine. Yes the exhaust side is hotter, but it's still connected to the compression side and that gets pretty damn hot too. Hot *** turbo = evaporated water.

....... in theory, everything with cars is in theory. I wouldn't worry about it, because it's not going to inhale enough moisture to do any detrimental damage. Like I stated before it will be able to still pull air in from the factory location, and water is heavier than air, so the air would be sucked in rather than it hydrolocking. If it does hydrolock, I'll **** bricks.

Wow, i like this mod alot. Great write up too [sm=smiley20.gif]

If you put a filter in there, you shouldnt have a problem with hydrolocking.

For fogs you would have to move the scoop over to the side next to the fog, and cut the bumper insert to allow air through. This might be pretty hard, I don't really know since I don't have fogs.

What's funny is your making available all this extra air, that your turbo/engine cant do anything with anyway.

The stock airbox provides more than enough intake air for a stock turbo.

If you want to improve the engine performance, get a better exhaust so the engine can expel exhaust faster, which in turn spins the turbo faster, giving you more power. (and the stock airbox still will keep up with no modding).

I think your write up was incredible. I am not knocking your efforts. But, everyone seems so concerned with the airbox, and it does so very little to performance, especially if you are running the k03 turbo.
But, your writeup is a great idea for someone looking to feed their Big turbo. Nice work.

I agree. The stock airbox provides enough air for the k03 to have optimal performance. Any modifications to it will only be benneficial for a BT, and I would highly recomend it for that. It is a great DIY article for sure, especially with the added insurance of a foam or fabricated air filter somewhere in there.

Good Point. I think it would be a better mod for someone like myself with a 2.8, where cold air is going to make MORE of a difference. You guys are compressing the air anyways, so colder, denser air wouldn't make much difference.
