rattling noise when clutch is released, please help????
so today I was driving home and a reaccuring problem ive had has gotten worse. this happened to another audi I had but never figured it out. I have an aftermarket clutch and flywheel, i believe flywheel weighs 13 or 14 pounds. When i drive my car it runs and shifts perfectly fine. However, say im slowing down from 30mph and i take my car out of gear and release the clutch, when the rpm's drop to 3000 to 1500 i hear this rattling noise. Almost like something is loose..... Today I noticed that when it IS in gear, it makes the same noise when i accelaerate hard (only through 1500 to 3000 rpm's). Especially when im in second and i start going from say about 10mph it does this, almost with every gear... My last car it did this but worse and I thought it might have to do with the throw-out bearing OR faulty flywheel maybe but it didnt solve the noise.......anybody please help me out!!!
before i replaced my clutch/transmission my car would rattle really bad when i was just sitting idling. funny thing is the previous owner said he drove it with that rattling for as long as he could remeber. anyway when i pulled of the transmissionthe t/o bearing looked fine. i replaced the entire clutch and havent heard the noise since.
theres is a very very slight chance it was my transmission rattling. i replaced that because it would grind really bad in first gear and did the clutch while i had it all apart. i dont really know what to say but its sounds like its the t/o bearing.

yah im thinkin about takin it apart again but want to hear what everyone has to say before i do. t/o bearing is the only thing i can think of
I have run across this several times when upgrading to RS4 clutches on S4 transmissions, the mail problem with them is either the pilot or throwout bearing, but sometimes if you have a 1.8 liter people forget to put the metal shim back in between the engine and transmission and because its so thin on an 1.8 liter it will bolt up fine but will trash the bearings and possibly the tranny.

if the pilot bearing in the flywheel is bad, the company should replace it, i would hope

it sounds like the shop didn't put that thin metal shim back in... in which case if your tranny's f*cked, they should have to pay for a new one.
