Rattling in rear speakers...
When ever I turn up the bass in my car or if a song has too much bass... my rear right speaker rattles. Now, I have no clue what it could be... Im sure the speaker isnt blown. I have no idea how to get to it. No, I dont know how to take it apart... when I try to do these things on my own, things will break... this is from experience with a B3 Passat. Could someone please clue me in to getting that thing off to get to the speaker. Thanks.
there might be somehting loose back there, cause mine rattles too when i play a song wit bass but when i roll all the windows its fine, does this still happen when you roll down the windows
From my experiance, the headliner just gets loose which creates the rattle you hear. I have a sub running and that basically started the whole thing with rattling. I took it to some of the best shops in CT and there wasn't anything they could come up with (besides elaborate and expensive custom enclosures for the sub). I stuffed towels in the back under the headliner (right under the trunk opening where speakers are) and that seemed to have helped a little. Good luck with it man.
My rattling turned out to be a broken clip that holds down the rear deck cover. It was the middle rear clip by the 3rd brake light. Hope it helps.
You have to take the rear deck off in order to get at the speakers. The grills do not come off as they are glued to the rear deck. I believe brrman posted instructions on how to do this about 5 months ago. Otherwise, I think audiworld has a little tutorial.
Otherwise, PM and I'll be happy to walk you thru it.
*NOTE* Do not remove the seat-belt covers when taking the rear deck off...it is pointless and they are a P.I.T.A. to mess with.
