id be willing to bet money that the ls1 is lighter than the v6 especially the dohc 30v engine. its all aluminum and is a much simplier engine. more than likely not lighter than the 1.8tthough i bet you would be surprised how close they are. the t56 on the other hand is much heavier and beefier than the stock a4 transmission. i still have my old a4 transmission in my garage and it has got to be atleast 50lbs lighter.

if i were you id just sell your fwd a4 and find an a4 1.8t quattro withoil sludging issuesor broken timing belt. they really arent that hard to find. i saw aleast 3 on craiglist over the past year and thats just in the d.c area.
