Sounds kinda cheezy, but when I was looking at potential cars about a year ago, I was mostly focusing on Jap imports and looking at BMW E36 M3s and E34 M5s when I read a newspaper article about an 1997 A4 1.8T Quattro that won some track event. None of that really meant anything to me, but I really liked the look of the A4. I thought it was way out of my budget at the time so I kind of forgot about it for while until I did some research and saw it was right at the top of my budget.

EDIT: To contribute to the original thread, I chose the A4 because of its style, class, and sport potential. Looked at a few non-quattro's and I am so glad I had the patience to stick it out and wait for the right quattro one.
