Default remote starter

Are remote starters fairly easy to install on 97 B5 A4's? Does anyone have one with a remote starter installed? Has anyone run into complications with installing or operating remote starters on their Audis?

i had one on my honda accord and it was a god-send in the winter here in NJ, but that was an automatic. You are gonna run into trouble with manuals because of the clutch having to be in when u start. I kno people who have bypassed it...well one kid...and he left his car in gear one time and it jumped, stalled, and ran partly through his parents garage lol

b5's at least mine doesn't have a nuetral safety switch. You can start it without depressing the clutch. I think they added it in 99.

I still wouldn't do it if you have a 5 speed. I've looked into it and the risk isn't worth it. If you accidentally leave it in gear one day when you're in a rush, yours and probably someone elses car are fu(ked, not to mention, insurance won't cover something like that.

For an auto, it might be worth it. A few people I know have it and it's a little bit of a convenience, but I have no problem walking outside and starting my car up.

the only downside is if it interupts the alarm signal. You might have to turn off or not set the alarm to be able to start the car properly/effectively. Other than that, it should be fine.

Do you have a remote for your alarm? You can probably intergrate the two together.

I'm NOT worried about the alarm because I can bypass it. But I have looked around and heard from other posts that Audis are start and go and should not be left idling...btw I have a 97 A4 1.8T Quattro Auto. Can anyone tell me for sure if there is any SERIOUS REASON behind not installing remote starters and NOT LETTING the car idle?

There will be no detrimental effects from idling your car for a 5-10 minutes before driving. They built where they don't need the engine to warm up before driving but it does not effect reliablity or performance.
