In my '02 (B5) S4, I accidentally pushed the cigarette lighter holder *through* the console down. So now the lighter mount is dangling with one end connected to the mid-console and the other side is dangling down.

How can I remove the mid-console? I don't want to randomly go unscrew bolts without a plan! I think I have to start with removing the armrest, which seems to be mounted directly to the chassis, or something. But I'm unsure where to start.

Who can help me out?

Front ashtray

Pull radio approx. 10mm out of the radio slot.

Remove air conditioning system operating and display unit -E87-



–
Open ashtray (front).



–
Take insert out of ashtray (front).



–
On vehicles with manual gearbox: Prise out gearshift cover upwards and detach gear lever boot

On vehicles with automatic gearbox: Prise out gearshift cover upwards



–
Unscrew bolts -2- on ashtray.



–
Lift out ashtray (front).



–
Unplug electrical connector.



–
Disengage trim -3- from ashtray.



–
Unclip storage compartment trim -4-.



Install in reverse order.

Thank you so much for the quick reply! However, I was looking for removing the part of the console just to the rear of that, e.g. where the hand parking brake is at.

After some more digging, I found this: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int.html which is exactly what I was looking for! I now found why the cig lighter was dangling, some plastic parts broke. I'm putting some superglue on it as we speak!
